Summertime Activities for Youth Groups

Summertime is on its way! Does your youth group have plans this summer, outside of the normal duties/activities? It can sometimes be difficult to come up with great activities that the whole group can take part in that aren't expensive or hard to organize, especially when summer is in full swing.

Here are some fun ideas for your youth group to do this summer!

Camping

Camping can bring a whole group closer together. When everyone's out at a camp site together, bonding is bound to happen, along with the fun! Do all the quintessential camping activities for an amazing trip. Camp in tents, have bonfires, go canoeing and hiking, make dinner together over the fire, tell stories around the campfire, and toast marshmallows. This can get more difficult with a larger group, but breaking up into smaller groups with chaperones for each group is a way to make it work.

Swimming or Water Park

Summertime means time for enjoying some water! Whether that means just heading to the local swimming pool or visiting a water park, youth will have a great time together. Of course, it's important to make sure group members can swim before letting them in deeper water. Parents will want to sign off on this one.

BBQs

Few things are more fun for youth than eating food and hanging out with their friends. A barbecue at a local park is a great way for this to happen! Make sure to bring plenty of food to grill, side dishes to feed the crowd, and different yard games and game balls to toss around while the food cooks and after eating. If your group is large enough, you could even start a real game of touch football, soccer or kickball.

Summer sporting events

Summer is the perfect time for taking in a game. Baseball is a great choice for those who are interested. Have everyone grab their gloves and head to a game! Make sure the kids bring money for concessions. The hot dog and bag of chips are as essential to a game of baseball as the home runs! Don't want to watch a sporting event? Have your own instead!
