Online Resources and Virtual Events to Keep Your Kids Educated and Entertained

All over the world, kids who would typically be in school, are learning from home.  As a parent, this creates even more stress inside the home. Many of us aren’t professionals, and we need a little help when it comes to at home learning and a full day of taking care of the kids, especially those that are working remotely.

This is a new normal for most of us, so don’t feel alone in your efforts. There are wonderful online resources that are useful as an extension to other educational tools you’ve likely been given.

We’ve gathered a list of resources and activities to help you out during this time. In addition to some fun summer activities you can do while still keeping your social distance, here are some things to keep your family busy in the coming weeks.

Online Learning Resources

Learning doesn’t have to be boring. Here are some online resources that will make education fun for the young members of your family.

  • Scholastic Learn at Home—Get fresh content every day with this tool from a respected brand in education. You’ll get twenty days of learning materials, grouped by age range, as well as content for parents.
  • PBS.org—Designed for younger children, PBS is jam-packed with games that help you learn while you play. In addition to games, you can also access streaming episodes of PBS’s most popular children’s shows through the site.
  • Art for Kids Hub—The arts have been linked to improved aptitude in other areas. This YouTube channel provides art projects that are both fun and educational.
  • Scouting Tools—You can stay active in your troop, and even earn badges, while you’re at home. These tools will help you manage your activities and remain involved throughout this time.

Virtual Tours

It’s never been easier to explore without leaving your house. These field trip ideas will give your family a refreshing change from your day-to-day routine.

  • The British Museum—Immerse yourself in history with this Google-sponsored virtual tour of London’s famous museum. See such historic sights as the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies.
  • The Louvre—See some of the most famous works of art through this virtual tour of the renowned museum in Paris.
  • Great Wall of China—Combine adventure with history by taking a virtual walk on a wall with sections that date all the way back to the 7th Century B.C.
  • The White House—If you’ve ever wanted to tour the White House, this is your chance. Google Arts and Culture gives you an informative tour.

Non-Screen Events

You likely already realize the importance of spending some time away from screens. Here are some activities to keep your kids entertained and learning with all your devices off.

  • Get creative—This sheet has some fun activities that engage your children’s creative side. They include reading out loud, writing a song, and building something out of materials you have on hand.
  • Get competitive—If you have more than one child in the house, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy the same activities your kids usually participate in. Here are some great ideas to help you get the competition going.
