More Summer Activities for Youth Groups

Last summer, we wrote a blog post with some ideas for summer activities for youth groups. Now, we’re adding onto that list! Here are some more ideas for summer activities for youth groups.

Scavenger Hunt

While a scavenger hunt can be quite a bit of work for the organizers, it can be an incredibly fun event for youth! You can either hide a final prize in a public area and have the group look for it based off of clues, or make a list of certain things each group has to find. You could even turn this into a fun community event by making the items that they have to find non-perishable food items for the local food bank. The group then has to go door-to-door to collect them!

Track & Field Day

Many school gym classes put on a track and field day (or days) each year. Why not do it as a group? Have everyone sign up for a specific event (or several if your group is smaller), have some training time, then a day where you compete and invite families to come watch.

Garage Sale

This is a great fundraising opportunity, as well as a fun one. Ask residents around town for garage sale donations. Odds are, many people have “junk” they’d love to sell! Have the group set up and run the whole sale. Money raised can go toward camping trips for the summer!

Providing Services for the Local Community

There are a lot of people in the community that might need a little help with their yard, or with a project around their home. Public areas need a little housekeeping, too! Volunteer to pick up trash along a stretch of road, a stream, in a public park, or on a bike trail.

Hawaiian Night

This one’s a little more fun than work! Have a luau. Everyone dresses up in their finest grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts, eats pineapple, does the limbo, and tries to hula.

Food Tasting Competition

The group leader buys some not-so-common foods and feeds them to blindfolded youths. The youth have to guess what it is they’re eating. Fun and hilarious, this activity is sure to keep the group talking! Turn it into a fundraising event by making it a competition and inviting the public, or at least families of the youth.
